Infrared Saunas 1 Sunlighten Overview 2

Sunlighten’s Specific Wavelengths

Like dials on a radio station, there are many frequencies of infrared and its next-door neighbor, visible red light (infrared means “below red”). With a commitment to ongoing in-depth research, study and innovation, we’ve dialed in our wavelengths to specific infrared and red light wavelengths. We focused on the science and studies that show these are best absorbed by the body and most effective for optimal well-being, vitality and longevity. Here’s an overview of each of Sunlighten’s wavelengths, and what they activate in your body:

Far Infrared

- Foundational infrared wavelength (9.4 microns)

- Only FIR heater clinically shown to raise core body temp 3°

- Absorbed by water cells

- Activates sweat glands, deep detoxifying sweat

- Energizes and revitalizes, not draining heat

- 95-99% emissivity = maximum absorption/bioavailable wavelengths

Infrared Saunas 1 Sunlighten Overview

What is Infrared?

Infrared is light, for life.

Nature gives us infrared light. You can’t see it with your eyes, but you know it. It’s that good feeling you get the moment the sun comes out on a cloudy day. It’s the warmth you love to soak up at the beach or next to a fire.

Infrared is the healthy, healing rays that come from the sun, the ones that feel like a hug. It also helps plants bloom. The right amount helps stems grow fast and strong. Everything in nature needs it to live. And we don’t get enough of it in our modern world.

Watch this video to “see” infrared in action.

Animation helps make what’s invisible visible, so we created this 2-minute video to help you better understand what infrared is and how our bodies interact with it. Our bodies are like solar panels designed to absorb infrared light, which activates our body’s cells to produce the energy that boosts health and slows aging. Watch to learn more!

Why People Trust Sunlighten’s Infrared Light Therapy

Patented Infrared

Sunlighten’s SoloCarbon® far infrared heaters are patented, meaning when you choose Sunlighten you can have peace of mind that you are getting the most infrared-dense sauna on the market for most effective results.

Absorption

Sunlighten’s heaters are third-party tested 95-99% emissive, which proves our patented heaters and combinations of wavelengths in all of our saunas do what we say they do: emit the wavelengths the body absorbs best.

Purest Frequency

Only Sunlighten technology delivers specific infrared wavelengths that are dialed in to what our cells need to repair biological aging, like tuning your radio to the clearest channel, or like choosing supplements that are pure and free of extra fillers.

Science-Backed

We led the infrared sauna industry by being the first to combine light science with published studies of how infrared affects the body; other companies followed us. We have the patent on our heaters and NASA-inspired LED panels which means only ours emit precise wavelength combinations.

Proven Technology

Studies are costly and complex. Not many sauna companies have had clinical studies done on their saunas. Sunlighten has three studies using our technology that have proven ours temporarily lower BP, reduce waist size and increase flexibility.

Infrared Saunas 1 Sunlighten Benefits

https://www.sunlighten.com/red-light-therapy/

A completely different experience than the high-power density of the RED Light Therapy Panel, our premier, patented 3 in 1 precision wavelength infrared sauna is integrated with lower power density red light to preserve the sauna sanctuary experience and allow for longer therapeutic sessions than RLT devices provide. It's the world's first and only dynamic sauna that also provides the ease of pre-set programs to target the specific health benefits you want.

Red light therapy mirrors the healthy power of sunlight

Red light therapy is a natural, non-invasive treatment that uses red and near infrared wavelengths to penetrate the skin, boosting cellular energy, collagen production, and circulation. Similar to sunrise and sunset light, it stimulates repair and regeneration, much like sunlight helps plants grow and thrive.

Our bodies thrive with red light

Just as sunlight powers plants through photosynthesis, red and near infrared light energize human cells. Backed by over 1,000 studies, this bioactive light penetrates deeply, reversing free radical damage and helping the body combat stressors like aging, joint pain, and environmental damage at a cellular level.1

Explore science-backed health benefits of red light therapy

Red light energizes cells

Red light therapy targets mitochondria, the "powerhouses" of your cells, boosting adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production for repair and optimal function.2 With over 100 trillion mitochondria in the body, red light energizes cells, supporting skin repair, heart health, and vitality.

Red light can rejuvenate and repair skin

Red light penetrates the skin at a cellular level, offering big benefits. Studies show red and near infrared wavelengths boost collagen production, improving skin elasticity.3 With regular exposure, this leads to fewer wrinkles and fine lines, promoting healthier, more youthful skin.

Red light can relieve pain and inflammation

Soreness or joint pain can limit activities, yet red light therapy offers effective support for tissue repair. Research in the British Journal of Sports Medicine shows three minutes of red light reduces inflammation and pain in tendonitis, while treatments improve pain, mobility, and quality of life in osteoarthritis patients.4

Red light can help improve sleep

For those struggling with falling or staying asleep, red light therapy may help. Research suggests that 30 minutes of red light at night can boost melatonin production, the hormone responsible for sleep, leading to deeper, more restful sleep.5

Red light supports muscle recovery

Red light therapy helps muscles regenerate and become more resilient. Using red and near infrared wavelengths, this therapy penetrates deep into muscles, energizing cells to speed up tissue repair and reduce inflammation. Studies show it can accelerate recovery and reduce soreness, enhancing muscle strength.6

Red light can help reduce cellulite

Red light therapy stimulates collagen production, improves blood flow, and enhances lymphatic drainage, all of which contribute to smoother, firmer skin. A study from the National Institute of Health found that red light therapy can break down fat cells, leading to a significant reduction in the appearance of cellulite. By creating tiny pores in fat cells, red light therapy allows lipids to be released and promotes the growth of new blood vessels, which helps clear toxins and reduce inflammation.7 When combined with massage or exercise, studies have shown the effects can be even greater.

Red light can strengthen the immune system

Red light therapy can boost immune function by stimulating cellular energy production and improving circulation. Research shows that red light therapy enhances the activity of immune cells such as lymphocytes and macrophages, which play a crucial role in defending the body against infections. It also reduces inflammation by promoting antioxidant activity and supporting the repair of damaged tissues.8

Why Kansas City Can’t Stop Talking About Infrared Saunas

What’s the Buzz About Infrared Saunas in Kansas City?

If you’ve noticed more talk about infrared saunas lately, you’re not alone. Wellness trends come and go, but this one isn’t a fad. Instead, it is a science-backed, deeply relaxing experience, and completely changing how Kansas City locals recover, recharge, and care for their bodies.

At The Body Lab KC, members use infrared sauna sessions to recover faster from workouts, reduce stress, improve skin health, and even boost sleep. Whether you’re an athlete, a busy parent, or someone trying to find balance in your wellness routine, infrared therapy has something to offer.

So what makes an infrared sauna different from a regular sauna—and why are people across Kansas City swapping their traditional heat for this modern wellness upgrade? Let’s dive into the science, the benefits, and why The Body Lab KC is the go-to spot for infrared therapy in Leawood in Kansas.

What’s the Difference Between Infrared Saunas and Traditional Saunas?

Traditional saunas heat the air around you, which then warms your body indirectly. Infrared saunas, on the other hand, use infrared light waves to penetrate deep into your muscles and tissues. This creates a gentler, more comfortable experience with no suffocating air and no dizzy heat. It’s simply a deep, detoxifying sweat that starts from the inside out.

In a typical infrared session at The Body Lab KC, temperatures range from 110°F to 160°F, allowing your body to heat gradually while you relax. Unlike traditional saunas that can feel like endurance training, infrared sessions feel restorative.

TLDR: Traditional saunas heat the room. Infrared saunas heat you.

And that’s exactly what makes them powerful for recovery, stress relief, and overall wellness.

6 Benefits of Infrared Saunas

1. Enhanced Recovery for Active Lifestyles

Kansas City’s fitness scene is thriving. Whether you’re cycling the trails of your Leawood neighborhood, using your Lagree and Lo Burn passes at The Body Lab KC, or simply chasing kids around Meadowbrook Park, there is plenty of opportunity for sore muscles, inflammation, and the need for smart recovery.

Infrared saunas increase blood circulation and oxygen flow to muscles, helping flush out lactic acid buildup. This accelerates recovery and reduces soreness so you can get back to your workouts feeling strong not stiff!

At The Body Lab KC, many Lagree and Lo-Burn members finish a session with a 30-minute infrared sauna. It’s the perfect post-workout ritual for both your body and your mind.

2. Stress Relief That Goes Beyond the Surface

Chronic stress isn’t just mental; it takes a toll on your body too. Infrared sauna therapy helps calm your nervous system, reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), and promote a deep, meditative state of relaxation.

Many of our clients describe their infrared sessions as a true time to disconnect. The gentle heat, quiet space, and gradual sweating create a calming reset that lasts long after the session ends.

If you’ve been searching for natural ways to manage anxiety or simply want a healthier way to unwind, this is it.

💡 Pro Tip: Pair your sauna session with a Lo-Burn or Yoga Sculpt class to maximize endorphins, then finish with infrared therapy to lock in that post-workout calm.

3. Detoxification and Skin Health Benefits

You know what they say, “Don’t like the weather in KC? Just wait 20 minutes!”. Kansas City’s quick changing seasons and climates can wreak havoc on your skin and energy levels. Infrared saunas support the body’s natural detox process by promoting a deep sweat that eliminates heavy metals, environmental toxins, and excess sodium, all while stimulating collagen production for smoother, clearer skin!

Infrared light penetrates 1.5 inches below the skin’s surface, which helps with:

  • Pore cleansing (bye bye, breakouts)

  • Improved circulation (hello, glow)

  • Cell regeneration (firmer, healthier skin)

Regular users often say they notice that “post-sauna glow”right away. Dermatologists in KC and around the country are even recommending infrared sessions as a non-invasive way to support overall skin health!

4. Weight Loss and Metabolic Support

Infrared saunas aren’t just for relaxation but more importantly they can support your fitness goals too. During a single 30-minute session, your heart rate and circulation increase similarly to light cardio. This boosts calorie burn while improving metabolism and cardiovascular health.

On average, infrared sauna sessions can burn between 200–600 calories, depending on duration and intensity. The difference is that you’re not stressing your joints or overtraining to achieve it.

When paired with Lo-Burn Studio classes, infrared sauna therapy creates the ultimate one-two punch: low-impact strength + deep recovery.

Our Leawood KS members love using this combo for weight management, stress reduction, and sustainable fitness.

5. Immune Support and Pain Relief

Infrared saunas gently raise your core body temperature, simulating a “fever response.” This temporarily boosts your immune system and helps your body fight off minor illness or inflammation.

For those dealing with joint pain, arthritis, or muscle tension, infrared therapy can offer natural relief. The heat relaxes muscles and increases flexibility while reducing inflammation. It’s especially helpful during Kansas City’s cold months when aches and stiffness are more common.

Local Tip: “During those bitter cold January/February weeks in Kansas City, nothing feels better than a 30-minute infrared session. It’s warmth, therapy, and relaxation all rolled into one.”

6. Better Sleep, Mood, and Mental Clarity

If you struggle with restless nights or a racing mind, infrared therapy can help you reset. Sessions lower cortisol and increase serotonin (the “feel-good” hormone) making it easier to unwind at night.

Clients at The Body Lab KC often report deeper sleep, less anxiety, and better focus after consistent sauna use. It’s not just physical recovery—it’s mental recovery too.

In a world that glorifies being busy, spending 30 minutes in silence and heat might be the healthiest thing you do all week.

Why The Body Lab KC is Kansas City’s Infrared Leader

Kansas City has plenty of gyms, but The Body Lab KCstands out for one reason: a complete approach to wellness. Our infrared saunas aren’t just an “add-on”, we believe they are an essential part of recovery, just like movement, mindfulness, and community!

At The Body Lab KC, we’ve seen firsthand how incorporating infrared sauna sessions helps clients look better, feel better, and move better. It’s not about the sweat—it’s about what that sweat does for you.

Saturday morning is my Lagree workout at BodyLab… not a comedy show. Yet somehow Mike delivered both. First off, the workout. My muscles filed a formal complaint halfway through. I discovered brand new muscle groups, including one located somewhere behind my soul. Lagree is basically slow motion torture designed by people who clearly hate chairs and comfort. Mike just smiles and says things like “you’re doing great” while the Megaformer is actively negotiating my surrender. Now Mike himself… imagine a coach, a DJ, a dad-joke enthusiast, and a walking ESPN trivia night had a baby. Between sets he’s dropping sports facts, random stories, and punchlines that make you go “huh… wait… was that funny?” and then five minutes later you laugh because your brain finally caught up. At one point I was shaking so hard I forgot my own name and he’s over there talking about a 1998 playoff stat like we’re hanging out on his couch. Somehow it distracts you just enough to survive the next set of slow lunges from the underworld. Music is dialed in. Coaching is clear. Suffering is guaranteed. 10/10 workout 7/10 jokes (but improving weekly) 0/10 chance I could walk downstairs after If you want a killer workout and a coach who keeps it fun while your legs question every life decision you’ve ever made, Mike at BodyLab is your guy. I’ll be back… once my hamstrings forgive me.

Nicole’s class was amazing. After loving Lagree for years I wanted to add Yoga to my weekly schedule. Nicole’s Vinyasa class is the perfect addition. A must try if you want to learn from one of the best. Check out her schedule and give it a try.

I took Lo Burn Vinyasa with Nicole and loved it! I’ve taken prior heated flow classes that were uncomfortably hot, but this one was perfect - heated enough to feel challenged, but not stifling. Nicole helped me make great adjustments and made it a wonderful guided experience!

I’ve been attending the Lo Burn Vinyasa with Nicole at the Leawood location. I love it. The class is welcoming and it doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or you have had many years of yoga classes. Nicole is a wonderful instructor and assist in making your experience a great one. Her goal is to make you feel better when you leave than when you arrived. I highly recommend her class. You won’t regret the experience. See you there!

I’ve been taking Lagree classes at Body Lab for over 10 years, and here’s the deal — when I show up, I want to be challenged. Every. Single. Time. And Mallory delivers like clockwork. Her classes are equal parts grit, humor, and “why do my legs feel like Jell-O… in the best way possible?” The community here is awesome, but Mallory is the secret sauce. She pushes you just past your comfort zone while somehow making you laugh through the burn. If you want a workout that humbles you, motivates you, and makes you stronger — she’s your coach. Ten years in, and I still leave her class thinking, “Yep… that’s why I keep coming back.”

Took my first class today and had the best time! Mya was amazing and super helpful making me feel comfortable and challenging myself! I will be back soon!

I am a runner but am getting over knee pain. A colleague told me about your palliates classes and so I have tried them recently. I like the workouts, I like using muscles that don't get worked enough, and I like the pace of the classes. I would highly recommend anyone to try 3 or 4 classes then see if it works with your health goals. My knee pain has mostly resolved, and I plan to incorporate palliates into my weekly exercise routine. Really check out these workouts!

If you’re looking for a Lagree coach who will challenge you, push your limits, and somehow make you love every second of it—Mallorie is the one. Her classes are intense in the best way possible. She has this incredible ability to get more out of you than you thought you had in you—mentally and physically. Just when you think you’ve reached your max, she motivates you to dig a little deeper. But beyond her skill as a coach, she’s just an all-around amazing person. Supportive, high-energy, and truly committed to helping you grow stronger with every session. Whether you’re new to Lagree or a seasoned pro, you’ll leave her class feeling accomplished—and probably a little sore (in a good way). Highly recommend her to anyone serious about getting stronger and being inspired in the process.

A friend recommended the megaformer classes to me and I have seen a lot of improvement in my strength and flexibility since I started. The instructors are all very supportive and give suggestions on how to adapt the workout to each persons needs and abilities (love Dolly!) I recently started attending Jay’s yoga flow classes too and they have really complemented my mega classes.

The Body Lab and instructors are fantastic! The challenging classes push me in all the right ways, helping me build long, lean muscles while improving my strength and flexibility. I also love the added low-burn classes, which provide additional intense workouts. Treating myself to the red light sauna afterward is the perfect way to relax and recharge. The combination of effective workouts and thoughtful recovery options makes The Body Lab my go-to fitness destination!

Recent KC transplant searching for cross training opportunity to compliment miles of running! The Body Lab fits the bill. The Lagree workouts are challenging yet efficient. I have attended classes with Mike and Page, and while I am still learning the routines, both instructors are encouraging, enthusiastic, and energetic. As a newbie to the area, I have found the community to be kind and welcoming.

The Pilates workout itself was effective, and I definitely felt challenged, but there were a couple of elements that could be improved to enhance the overall atmosphere. The lights in the studio were very bright, which made it a bit harder to focus and get into the groove of the workout. Additionally, the music was quite low, and I found that it didn’t quite match the energy of the session. I wonder if there’s a possibility of having certain classes with dimmed lights and a more upbeat playlist, as that combination really helps create a better vibe for me personally. Another thing I would suggest as a class pass user is that it would be helpful to know specifically which body parts a class is targeting, instead of just the general “megaformer” label. That way, I can better decide which class is right for my needs. Overall, though, I had a good experience and will definitely give Body Lab another try. Looking forward to seeing if they make some of these tweaks!

Jen's class was hard but the good hard. Jen provided sweet relief and modifications if a move was too challenging. She gave insightful corrections so everyone was working the proper part of the body. I would definitely come back!! Studio was beautiful. I love the tonal theme!

Simply the best workout ever! I've been running, and lifting for years and years. Bodylab is a full body workout, and it will tone your entire body in 50 minute sessions. My abs, legs, glutes have never been stonger. Highly recommend, and their instructors, and owners rock!!! Five STARS!!
